1. What is a 5-year visa exemption certificate?

5-year visa exemption certificate (also known as 5-year visa) is a document for entry and exit into Vietnam for Vietnamese citizens residing abroad or cases where foreign citizens are husbands/wives/ children of Vietnamese people.

When entering Vietnam with this type of document, you can temporarily stay in Vietnam for a maximum of 6 months per entry.

Note: The 5-year visa exemption certificate has the same value as a Vietnam visa.

The content of the application form for a 5-year visa exemption certificate includes 13 items as follows:

  • Full name
  • Sex
  • Date of birth
  • Place of birth
  • Nationality at birth
  • Current nationality
  • Passport or International Travel Document number
  • Occupation
  • Current residential, business address abroad
  • Previous residential address in Vietnam before reflecting abroad (if any)
  • Contact address in Viet Nam
  • Accompanying minors (under 14 years old) included in the applicant's passport
  • Supporting documents to prove the eligibility for a Visa Exemption Certificate

3. Instructions for filling out Form NA9 - Application form for 5-year Visa Exemption Certificate

Applicants must fill in the following information:

  • Section 1: Fill in the full name of the applicant

  • Section 2: Select the corresponding Gender box

  • Section 3: Fill in date/month/year of birth

  • Section 4: Fill in place of birth

  • Section 5: Fill in your original nationality

  • Section 6: Fill in your current nationality if you have changed it (if not, leave blank))

  • Section 7: Fill in passport number/documents valid for international travel

Issuing agency/value of that passport or document

  • Section 8: Fill in the applicant's occupation

  • Section 9: Fill in your workplace address abroad

  • Section 10: Fill in the residential address in Vietnam before the applicant leaves the country (if any)

  • Section 11: Fill in contact address in Vietnam

  • Section 12: Fill in information for children under 14 years old traveling with their passport (if any)

  • Section 13: Record details of documents proving the relationship such as Marriage Registration Certificate, Birth Certificate, etc. to prove the blood relationship between the applicant and the Vietnamese citizen
