VIETNAM VISA REQUIREMENTS

Question 1. How do I know whether I qualify for Vietnam visa exemption?

Answer - On August 15, 2023, nationals of Germany, France, Italy, Spain, the UK, Russia, Japan, South Korea, Denmark, Sweden, Norway, Finland, and Belarus will be granted visa-free entry to Vietnam for a maximum stay of 45 days, regardless of their visa type or purpose of entry, as long as they comply with Vietnamese laws.

In addition, visa exemption is available to those who qualify under certain international agreements, hold permanent/temporary residence cards, enter coastal economic zones, and certain Vietnamese people residing overseas and their families.

You can refer to Article 1 of Resolution No.128/NQ-CP and Article 12 of Law on entry, exit, transit and residence of foreigners in Vietnam 2014 (amended 2019) about Vietnam visa exemption.

Question 2. How many kinds of Vietnam visa are there? How do I know which visa type is right for me?

Answer - There are many ways to classify different kinds of Vietnam visa.

In terms of the entry purpose, there are 6 common types of visas as follows:

  • Tourist visa (DL)
  • Business visa (DN1 – DN2)
  • Working visa (LD1 – LD2)
  • Investor visa (DT1, DT2, DT3, DT4)
  • Vietnam dependent visa (TT)

In terms of visa validity including single entry or multiple entry visa:

  • Maximum of 3 months
  • Maximum of 6 months
  • Maximum of 12 months
  • Maximum of 2 years
  • Maximum of 5 years

To find the most suitable one, you should understand some information of your trip such as entry purpose, arrival date and departure date from Vietnam, whether the entry gate is an airport, seaport or land border gate, whether you qualify for Vietnam visa exemption, as well as learn about the advantages and disadvantages of each type of visa.

Question 3. What are the passport requirements for Vietnam Visa?

Answer - In Article 20, Law on entry, exit, transit and residence of foreigners in Vietnam 2014, the law stipulates clearly if your passport has expired or is valid for less than 6 months from the entry date, you are not eligible to apply for a Vietnam visa, and you may also be refused transportation by airlines.

Question 4. What are the photo requirements for Vietnam Visa?

Answer - You have to prepare 02 photos according to the requirements below,

  • Photo size is 4 x 6 cm (standard Vietnamese photo size) or 2 x 2 inches.
  • The photos must be the same and taken no more than 6 months ago.
  • Color photo, printed on white background photo paper.
  • The five senses are clearly visible, the face is clear, the background is a light color.
  • Do not wear hats or anything else, unless for religious reasons it is necessary to show your face clearly.
  • Do not smile and wear glasses unless they are nearsighted/farsighted/vision glasses and do not cover your face.

Question 5. Do I need to provide the scan of my passport to enter Vietnam?

Answer - It is optional. Vietnam visa application does not require you to have a scanned copy of your passport. However, you can be prepared in case the Vietnam Immigration Department requests to re-authenticate your passport information.

OTHER QUESTIONS

Question 1. What should I do when I submit wrong information or my information changes after applying for a visa?

Answer - You must contact us without delay about the changes/errors so that we can handle them promptly. In case we reply that it cannot be fixed, you will be required to apply for a new visa.

Question 2. I cannot prepare photos in my country. Could I get my photos ready in Vietnam?

Answer - Yes, you absolutely can. Your visa photo can be taken at the Vietnam airports by the Immigration Department at a cost of 2 to 5 USD or ask for more information from ground staff.

Question 3. Do I have to apply for a visa when I am a Vietnamese overseas?

Answer - Decree No. 82/2015/NĐ-CP allows for Vietnamese people residing overseas and foreigners who are spouses, children of Vietnamese people residing overseas or of Vietnamese citizens to be exempt from visas to Vietnam.

The certificate of visa exemption is valid for up to 05 years and must be shorter than the duration of the passport or international travel document.

Question 4. Do I need to apply for a visa to enter Phu Quoc Island?

Answer - No, you don’t need to. Foreigners can legally enter Phu Quoc Island without visa in accordance with Clause 4 and Clause 6, Article 12 of Law No. 51/2019/QH14 Amendments to a number of Articles of Law on entry, exit, transit and residence of foreigners in Vetnamese Citizens for your references.

Question 5. Do I need to apply for a new visa if my entry port changes?

Answer - With Visa On Arrival, you can enter the country at one of 08 international airports in Vietnam even though that port is not stated on your visa. Therefore, you don't need to worry as long as your arrival port is among the above 8 airports. 

However, you have to apply for a new visa if the application method is Vietnam eVisa. You are only allowed to enter Vietnam through the port chosen in application form, no alternation is accepted.

Question 6. Can I get a Vietnam visa with criminal records?

Answer - At the moment, all service portals for Vietnam visa application do not require information for your criminal records so almost all applicants can submit their documents, unless you are on the List of prohibited international exits.
