This is probably a question that many people often wonder, especially in cases where their itinerary includes Vietnam as a transit location. By clearly understanding the regulations at the transit location, you can avoid unnecessary troubles, save costs and comfortably enjoy your trip.

According to Vietnamese regulations, foreigners must first meet the following 3 conditions to transit in Vietnam:

  • First, have a passport valid for at least 06 months or valid international travel documents;

  • Second, the ticket is suitable for the journey to a third country;

  • Third, present a visa from a third country, unless visa-exempt.

At that time, foreigners transiting in Vietnam for less than 24 hours AND only staying in the transit area at the airport or seaport during their layover specified by competent authorities will not need to apply for a Vietnamese visa.

In case your transit duration is more than 24 hours OR you want to leave the transit area to enter the interior of Vietnam, you are required to apply for a visa.

For the above needs, E-visa is the best choice because you only need to quickly register for an e-visa on the official website of the Ministry of Public Security and can enter the country at any port including airports, seaports and landports.
